Cardinals selected Arizona OF Chase Davis with the 21st pick of the 2023 MLB Draft.

Davis has rocketed up draft boards over the last few months, thanks to a 21-homer campaign for Arizona. He traded in some of his elite plate discipline to tap into some additional over-the-fence power, which resulted in a huge power surge. He’s the type of skilled all-around slugger with very few weaknesses at this point in his development and could find himself on the fast track to the majors. He’s posted some of the strongest batted-ball data of any prospect in the draft class and could wind up making a significant impact for fantasy managers in the near future.

Willson Contreras went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer on Saturday in the Cardinals’ 4-3 extra-inning win over the White Sox.

Contreras took right-hander Lucas Giolito deep to left field -- his 10th round-tripper of the season -- to supply the Cardinals’ lone runs in a low-scoring first-half finale. The 31-year-old catcher was back in St. Louis’ lineup following a two-game absence after undergoing a dental procedure earlier this week.

Walker clobbered a ninth-inning round-tripper off southpaw reliever Tanner Banks to give the Cardinals a commanding three-run advantage. The 21-year-old rookie sensation has homered twice in his last four contests and appears to be building some serious momentum to carry over into the second half of the year. He struck out Jake Burger before getting Gavin Sheets to line out to end the contest. The hard-throwing 26-year-old righty has emerged as a viable closing option the last few weeks with Ryan Helsley on the injured list.

Miles Mikolas fired seven shutout innings on Saturday in a win over the White Sox.

Mikolas scattered four hits and finished with six strikeouts, requiring an extremely efficient 95 pitches (71 strikes) to complete seven frames in his final first-half outing. The 34-year-old right-hander will bring a serviceable 4.23 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 78/24 K/BB ratio across 112 2/3 innings (19 starts) into the All-Star break.
