Giants selected Eaton HS (CO) SS Walker Martin with the 52nd pick of the 2023 MLB Draft.
Martin turned 19 in February and is one of the older prep prospects in the draft. He was a two-sport player at Eaton High School in Colorado where he also played quarterback, but baseball is where his future lies. The 6-foot-2 middle infielder still has a chance to fill out some, adding to his power potential from the left side of the plate. The question is how he’ll perform outside of Colorado, as well as where he’ll fit best defensively.
  • SF 1st Baseman
Giants selected James Madison HS (Vienna, VA) 1B/RHP Bryce Eldridge with the 16th pick of the 2023 MLB Draft.
Already dubbed as the potential “American Ohtani,” the 6-foot-7 Eldridge slings a mid-90s fastball and also brings some serious thunder at the plate. He’s the latest two-way project for San Francisco, joining last year’s first-round selection Reggie Crawford. While the 18-year-old pitches from the right side, he bats left-handed and has reportedly maxed out at 110 mph in exit velocity. In his senior year at Madison High School, he put up an ungodly 1.706 OPS as a hitter in addition to a 1.06 ERA as a pitcher. It’s unfair to compare any player to Ohtani, but odds are he’ll get a shot to prove himself as one of the most intriguing talents in this year’s class.
  • SF 3rd Baseman #7
J.D. Davis blasted a solo homer on Sunday, leading the Giants to a 1-0 victory over the Rockies.
Davis took southpaw Kyle Freeland deep to center field in the fourth inning for his 11th long ball of the season. It was his first round-tripper since June 17, snapping a 19-game home run drought in the process, and wound up being the lone tally for either side in a low-scoring first-half finale.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #62
Logan Webb fired a complete-game shutout on Sunday against the Rockies.
Webb delivered a masterful performance on Sunday afternoon at Oracle Park in his first-half finale, requiring just 103 pitches (75 strikes) to go the distance against the division-rival Rockies for his first career complete game. He finished with 10 strikeouts, didn’t hand out a free pass, and scattered seven hits in this one. He’ll carry a sparkling 3.14 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 127/23 K/BB ratio across 126 innings (19 starts) into the All-Star break.
  • SF Shortstop #35
Brandon Crawford is not in the Giants’ starting lineup for Sunday’s finale against the Rockies.
Crawford was lifted in the in sixth inning of Saturday’s contest against the Rockies due to hamstring tightness. The Giants have decided to give the 36-year-old veteran extended rest prior to the All-Star. He likely return when the Giants face the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Friday. Casey Schmitt will start at shortstop and bat eighth in his place.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #75
Camilo Doval closed out the Rockies in the ninth inning on Saturday, preserving a two-run lead to notch his 26th save of the season.
Doval needed just ten pitches to get the job done on Saturday. He also struck out two batters en route to his 26th save. The 26-year-old is tied with Reds closer Alexis Díaz for the league lead.
  • SF Right Fielder #8
Michael Conforto went 3-for-4 and hit a two-run homer in the first inning Saturday in the Giants’ 5-3 defeat of the Rockies.
Dealing with a hamstring injury recently, Conforto came into the day 1-for-18 since June 27. His homer today was an opposite field shot that just barely cleared the wall down in the left field corner. It was his first homer in exactly a month and 13th overall.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #57
Pitching behind an opener, Alex Wood tossed five shutout innings Saturday for a victory against the Rockies.
Wood entered with the game tied at 2-2 after two and pitched scoreless ball through the seventh for his fourth win of the year. He finishes the first half with a 4.68 ERA and a 49/25 K/BB ratio in 50 innings. The Giants could continue to use him in a similar fashion at the beginning of the second half.
  • SF Shortstop #35
Brandon Crawford was removed from Saturday’s tilt against the Rockies due to left hamstring tightness.
Crawford suffered the injury while running to first base during the sixth inning. Given that there’s just one day left before the All-Star break, it’s likely that the 36-year-old shortstop will be held out of Sunday’s lineup as a precautionary measure.
  • SF Shortstop #35
Brandon Crawford was pulled from Saturday’s contest against the Rockies due to an apparent leg injury.
Crawford appeared to injure his leg while running to first base in the sixth inning. He’ll head for further evaluation to determine the extent of the injury. Expect the Giants to provide an update on his status prior to Sunday’s game.
