Cardinals selected Arizona OF Chase Davis with the 21st pick of the 2023 MLB Draft.
Davis has rocketed up draft boards over the last few months, thanks to a 21-homer campaign for Arizona. He traded in some of his elite plate discipline to tap into some additional over-the-fence power, which resulted in a huge power surge. He’s the type of skilled all-around slugger with very few weaknesses at this point in his development and could find himself on the fast track to the majors. He’s posted some of the strongest batted-ball data of any prospect in the draft class and could wind up making a significant impact for fantasy managers in the near future.

Willson Contreras went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer on Saturday in the Cardinals’ 4-3 extra-inning win over the White Sox.
Contreras took right-hander Lucas Giolito deep to left field -- his 10th round-tripper of the season -- to supply the Cardinals’ lone runs in a low-scoring first-half finale. The 31-year-old catcher was back in St. Louis’ lineup following a two-game absence after undergoing a dental procedure earlier this week.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #32
Steven Matz recorded a season-high nine strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball on Sunday in a no-decision against the White Sox.
Matz put forth his strongest performance of the season, making a strong case to secure a spot in the Cardinals’ starting rotation coming out of the All-Star break. The 32-year-old southpaw induced 17 swinging strikes and finished with a near-elite 37 percent CSW. He allowed just two baserunners with Elvis Andrus’ third-inning RBI single representing the lone tally against him in this one.
  • STL 2nd Baseman #33
Brendan Donovan will begin a throwing program during the All-Star break.
Donovan has been limited to designated hitter duty since he experienced arm soreness earlier this month. The Cardinals haven’t given a timeline for when the 26-year-old will return to the field as they need to see how he recovers day to day. Nolan Gorman and Alec Burleson will likely lose playing time once Donovan returns to the field.
  • STL Catcher #40
Willson Contreras is batting cleanup and catching lefty Steven Matz on Sunday.
Contreras missed the past two games as he recovered from a dental procedure earlier in the week. The 31-year-old is hitting .235/.326/.424 with nine homers and 34 RBI across 316 plate appearances this season.
  • STL 2nd Baseman #33
Brendan Donovan is not in the Cardinals’ lineup for Sunday’s finale against the White Sox.
Donovan has been limited has been dealing with soreness in his right arm and has been limited to DH duties. He will take the final game before the All-Star break off, which will give him one extra day to help his arm heal. Nolan Arenado will start Sunday’s game as the Cardinals designated hitter with Nolan Gorman shifting to third base and José Fermin making his major league debut at second base,
  • STL Right Fielder #18
Jordan Walker went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Saturday, leading the Cardinals to a 3-0 victory over the White Sox.
Walker clobbered a ninth-inning round-tripper off southpaw reliever Tanner Banks to give the Cardinals a commanding three-run advantage. The 21-year-old rookie sensation has homered twice in his last four contests and appears to be building some serious momentum to carry over into the second half of the year. He’s batting a solid .287/.348/.464 with 20 runs scored, eight homers, 25 RBI and three stolen bases across 198 plate appearances over 50 games in the big leagues.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #12
Jordan Hicks fired a scoreless ninth inning on Saturday against the White Sox to record his seventh save of the season.
Hicks got the call to protect a three-run lead in the final frame and gave up a one-out singles to Eloy Jiménez and Andrew Vaughn after retiring Luis Robert Jr. to open the inning. He struck out Jake Burger before getting Gavin Sheets to line out to end the contest. The hard-throwing 26-year-old righty has emerged as a viable closing option the last few weeks with Ryan Helsley on the injured list.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #39
Miles Mikolas fired seven shutout innings on Saturday in a win over the White Sox.
Mikolas scattered four hits and finished with six strikeouts, requiring an extremely efficient 95 pitches (71 strikes) to complete seven frames in his final first-half outing. The 34-year-old right-hander will bring a serviceable 4.23 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 78/24 K/BB ratio across 112 2/3 innings (19 starts) into the All-Star break.
  • STL Catcher #40
Willson Contreras (tooth) is absent from the Cardinals’ lineup for Saturday’s game against the White Sox.
It’ll be Andrew Knizner handling the catching duties on Saturday afternoon with Contreras sitting out his second straight game after undergoing a dental procedure earlier this week. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
