Profootballtalk’s Mike Florio reports the Jets have “more interest than most realize” in free agent Dalvin Cook, and that they are “gaining momentum” toward a signing.
Per Florio, the Jets’ interest is all about Breece Hall’s recovery from his torn ACL. Although Gang Green has publicly projected optimism on Hall’s status, the truth is it is still too early to know what Hall might be ready for come Week 1. There is also the Aaron Rodgers factor, with the team needing to be all in on what could be Rodgers’ first-and-only season with the team. It is also believed the Dolphins remain interested. Cook figures to sign near the beginning of training camp.
  • MIA Defensive Back
Smith had a somewhat disappointing 2022 season at South Carolina after his stellar 2021 campaign, when he held opposing wideouts to just 15 catches on 32 targets. In Miami, Smith will join a secondary graded by Pro Football Focus as last season’s fifth worst pass coverage unit.

The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reports the Dolphins have offered a contract to Dalvin Cook.
Jackson confirms there is “mutual interest” between Cook and the Dolphins. That Cook didn’t immediately take the team’s contract offer probably means it was on the low side salary wise — hardly shocking in a league in which even the game’s best running backs are routinely low-balled. Cook, whose production and efficiency has fallen off over the past two seasons, would likely enter a timeshare backfield in Miami alongside Raheem Mostert, Devon Achane, and Jeff Wilson. The Dolphins backfield is shaping up to be among the most frustrating for fantasy purposes this season.

Louise-Jacques, like many Dolphins beat writers, noted Achane’s explosiveness and speed during the team’s mandatory minicamp. He noted the team’s backfield would be crowded, with the return of Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson, but said Achane’s after-the-catch ability could separate him from the veteran backs familiar with Mike McDaniel’s offense. While it’s likely no Dolphins running back gets a big workload in 2023, Achane — a third round pick — could make the most out of his touches. Miami backs were targeted 105 times in 2022.

It was previously reported that the investigation into the incident had concluded, but the Miami-Dade Police told NFL.com that their inquiry was ongoing later that day. Then, the next morning, they confirmed to NBC 6 South Florida that the victim would be pressing charges. Per the police’s incident report, an argument broke out between a group that included Hill and marina employees. The argument turned physical and an employee was slapped on the neck by an unidentified person. This person is presumed to be Hill. Previously thought to be a story that would fade away, the incident involving Hill will now be worth watching closely as the legal process evolves.

According to Slater, “Cops told the alleged victim he would have to go to the state attorney’s office if he decides to pursue criminal charges.” Hill reportedly boarded a boat at the marina without permission and allegedly struck a man during the ensuing argument. Whether or not anything comes of this is anybody’s guess, but it sounds like this is an open-and-shut case for the time being. The NFL could still opt to levy a punishment against Hill if they deem the offense to be significant enough, but it’s possible this is the last we hear of the incident.

Hill allegedly struck a man during an argument at the marina on Sunday. The Dolphins said in a brief statement that the team is aware of the allegation and “will reserve further comment at this time.” Hill, 29, has a long history of violence. He was dismissed from the Oklahoma State football team in 2014 after being arrested and accused of domestic violence. His then-girlfriend alleged that Hill choked and punched her. In 2019, Hill was investigated for alleged battery that may have resulted in a broken arm for his three-year-old son. The NFL did not punish Hill for the incident after a medical investigation determined the boy’s broken arm was an accident. We’ll monitor this situation as it evolves this summer.

  • MIA Defensive Back #6
Williams was claimed off waivers from the Saints after being released via failed physical. A torn ACL in preseason of the 2022 season cost him a prime opportunity to contribute to a relatively weak depth chart in the secondary for the Dolphins. He was cleared to resume football activities towards the end of organized team activities and says he feels “fantastic.” Snaps should be hard to come by moving forward considering the addition of cornerback Jalen Ramsey to join Xavien Howard on the perimeter.

    Vikings released RB Dalvin Cook.
Cook’s release is expected to be made official on Friday. The Vikings save nearly $9 million in cap space with the release of Cook (27), who is expected to have a strong free agent market. The Dolphins and Broncos have been closely linked to Cook over the last several months, which include rumors of the Dolphins trying to trade for Cook ahead of the NFL Draft. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the team could attempt to trade Cook once more before Friday, but it sounds like the veteran back is officially on his way out of Minnesota after six seasons. Injuries have plagued Cook throughout much of his career, but that hasn’t stopped him from ripping off four-straight 1,000-yard seasons and 43 rushing touchdowns over that span. He should have several suitors on the open market, including the Dolphins and Broncos.

Hill has been limited during OTAs with a small injury that hasn’t seemed to concern the team too much. “Tyreek is probably the least I’m worried about him being physically able to perform his tasks, and I will say he’s been executing his assignments in walkthroughs,” McDaniel said. “He is putting his best foot forward, is night and day ahead of where he was last year with regard to the offense and has his mind set on improving and being even better from last year, which is the only place we want.” Hill last year had the second most wideout receptions (119) and the second most receiving yards (1,710). Another year in McDaniel’s hyper-efficient offensive system and a full season for Tua Tagovailoa could produce downright silly numbers for the fastest player in the NFL. Pro Football Network’s Adam Beasley suggested 2022 may have been Hill’s statistical floor in Miami’s offense.
